Below are the authors who made our sixth issue possible!

J. J. Steinfeld

Canadian fiction writer/poet/playwright J. J. Steinfeld lives on Prince Edward Island, where he is patiently waiting for Godot’s arrival and a phone call from Kafka. While waiting, he has published nineteen books: two novels, Our Hero in the Cradle of Confederation and Word Burials, twelve short story collections—The Apostate's Tattoo, Forms of Captivity and Escape, Unmapped Dreams, The Miraculous Hand and Other Stories, Dancing at the Club Holocaust, Disturbing Identities, Should the Word Hell Be Capitalized?, Anton Chekhov Was Never in Charlottetown, Would You Hide Me?, A Glass Shard and Memory, Madhouses in Heaven, Castles in Hell, and An Unauthorized Biography of Being—and five poetry collections, An Affection for Precipices, Misshapenness, Identity Dreams and Memory Sounds, Absurdity, Woe Is Me, Glory Be, and A Visit to the Kafka Café, and over fifty of his one-act plays and a handful of full-length plays have been performed in Canada and the United States, including the full-length plays The Franz Kafka Therapy Session, The Golden Age of Monsters, and A Television-Watching Artist; the one-act plays Godot’s Leafless Tree, The Waiting Ends, A Question of Eternity, The Entrance-or-Not Barroom, The Word-Lover, Laugh for Sanity, Back to Back, More Than Money, Imaginative Drinking, A Play of Disbelief, Memory Sounds, and In a Washroom of a Prestigious Art; and the radio plays In Becky's Name, A New Map, The Professor's Ashes, and Diogenes’ Lantern.

Madison Atwater

Madison is currently studying Strategic Communications with an emphasis in advertising at the College of Communication and Information, while minoring in both Business with the Leeds School of Business and Creative Writing in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. She grew up in Palo Alto, California but feels very lucky to call Boulder, Colorado home for now. Her involvement on campus includes being chapter Vice President for Her Campus CU Boulder while also holding a spot on the CU Boulder PINK Campus Team for PINK by Victoria's Secret. She is also apart of the CU Boulder Photography and Fashion club. Outside of school, Madison enjoys photography and yoga (she even works at Corepower Yoga!). She is currently studying advertising and communications in Seville, Spain for the Spring 2019 semester. Although this is her first writing work to be published, she is very passionate about writing of all kinds and hopes to pursue it throughout her entire career. She is so excited to be featured in Issue Six of Serial Magazine.

Mark Rivett


Michael W. Clark, Ph.D

Michael W. Clark has a Ph.D. in molecular biology from U.C.L.A. He has been a research scientist as well as an entrepreneur. Along with these professional endeavors, he has been writing fiction and poetry since he was a teenager. He has five poems and thirty four short stories published in various print and electronic journals. He is the creator, editor and contributor for the fiction and non-fiction website, He presently lives in Santa Monica, CA.

Paul-John Ramos

Paul-John Ramos is a published poet, short story writer, and essayist whose work has recently appeared in Workers Write, Trajectory, and Adelaide. A medicine-related poem will appear in an upcoming issue of CHEST, published by the American College of Chest Physicians.
